Pulled the disk from my copy, only to find the disk cracked. :-(

Wondering if anyone has a copy of the disk and would be willing to get
the PDF file to me. Or, if you know a place on the web where it can be
downloaded.

I'd be happy to scan the broken disk and cover of the book as proof I
own the book.

Is it possible that with proof, the publisher would let you D/L a copy?
Or mail a replacement CD?

It's worth a try, & also, one can hope.

My search on Google didn't bring that link up in the first 4 pages. You
just have to wonder... LOL

It's definitely a big book... 1108 pages. This version of the book was
published in 2007. I have the deluxe edition, printed in 2008, and at
least 200+ pages longer.

http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1481670&preflayout=flat

So far, I've not found a copy online other than buying a 2nd copy of the
book.

I do wonder about copyright infringement for the copy on gogeek that
your link sends you to. Which is why I offered to scan the broken CD
and book cover in order to prove I do own a copy.

All the "Inside Out" books are big. And as far as I'm concerned, they
are almost all good.

Same opinion here, except for the 8.X books. I have all of them from XP on.

Really, really disappointed in the 8.X books. Same size text, but the
books are only half as thick. Obvious hypotheses, either a crappy job
on the books, Win 8 has to have far fewer features/capabilities from
Windows 7, Vista, and XP, or a bit of both.

I don't actually read them from cover to cover, I use them simply for
reference when I want to know something. And sometimes you find pearls
of wisdom where you least expect it. LOL

Albasani.net does not carry that group. :-( But if it's the 2007
version of the book that Big_Al's link sends you to, it's a moot point,
as I downloaded that copy.

Further OT, how active is alt.binaries.atari? I have a Hades 060 Atari
clone I'd like to get running and updated. Bought it new, but it hasn't
been actively used for over 10 years, and I've forgotten a lot of Atari
knowledge.

I want to be able to run Calamus SL98 (high end page layout software in
its day for those that do not know of the program, Pagemaker and Quark
Express level) and a couple other pieces of software I have for Atari
ST/TT computers.

Since this is wa-a-a-a-ay OT for a Windows group, feel free to reply by
email, the reply to: address on this message is valid.

Hi, Ken.

I've always enjoyed learning from the "Inside Out" books. And I enjoyed
meeting Ed Bott at a couple of MVP Global Summits - back when I was an MVP.

It looks like I no longer have the Vista version, but from the XP I/O CD, I
find this in the "Companion CD Readme for Windows 7 Inside Out by Ed Bott,

Perhaps you can find some help at one of those resources.

Good luck.

any rate, unable to find anything on Vista. Couldn't check the free
ebooks with out signing up and be willing to accept at least 2 emails.

Not gonna sign up. <G>

You're addressing a different Ken, but I remember Ed Bott too. He is
very good. I met him in the same place you did, and once rode next to
him on the bus from the Microsoft campus back to the hotels. So we had
a long conversation and I got to know him a little better than I had
expected to.

I'm not sure, but I don't think I ever had the Vista version. But I
still have the Windows 7 and 8 versions.
