Discussion:
Patch Tuesday updates screw up Vista fonts

My Vista laptop machine has installed 15 updates for Patch Tuesday.
Now the font rendering seems to be screwed up. My first thought was
that the font smoothing settings had been fouled up, but that doesn't
seem to be the case. ClearType font smoothing is still set, and
selecting Standard, or turning it off altogether makes it even worse.
Does anybody have a clue?

I searched the update history of my Vista notebook for KB3013455, but it
wasn't found?
I do keep Vista up to date...

Unfortunately, the machine keeps putting KB3013455 back again! I've
switched my update option to "Download updates but let me decide
whether to install them". We'll see if that helps.

Go to Windows Updates. Single click on the update so you see it in the
*Check updates to install* window and then right click on it and Hide it.

Thanks for your help. I haven't had to mess with this before, letting
it work automatically was just fine. I think I've got it figured out
now.

For me, it was worst in Firefox.

Right-Click on the Desktop.
Choose "Personalize" ---> Window Color and Appearance --> effects
Check the box for; "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen
fonts"
Set it to; ClearType
